2021 Best Laptops for Graphic Design

Hello everyone, this is Adrian Boysel, and welcome back to another video article. Today we will be talking about the 7 things that you want to consider when purchasing a laptop; then, we will show you my recommendations for laptops in 2021, with affiliate links to make it easy to find the best laptop for graphic design that meets your needs and your budget.

Display

The first thing that you want to think about is the display. If you are doing any type of design, you want to make sure that the colors you see are accurate. One way you can do this is by making sure that the laptop has an IPS color display. One more thing that you should check when looking at the features of a specific display on a laptop is its resolution. I highly recommend that you get a display with a minimum of 1080×1920, also known as 1080P.

Processor

The second thing that you want to be looking for is the processor. At the bare minimum, I recommend an i5, but if you can afford it, it would be better to get an i7 or an i9 processor. The key here is the number of cores. The more cores you can get on a laptop, the better. Usually, the more cores that you have, the faster your system will run and more responsive. This especially comes into effect when you are working on high graphics videos or rendering large files. Anything with at least 2.4GHz and 4-6 Cores will be enough for any modern laptop.

Graphics Card

The third thing that you probably already knew was coming is the graphics card. I am going to be talking about these a lot during this video. There are 3 main graphics card companies. There is AMD, Intel, which makes mostly integrated graphics, and there is Nvidia which is currently the king of graphics cards. When looking at a laptop with a specific GPU (Graphics Processing Unit/ Graphics Card), it is important to ensure it has at least 1 to 2 gigs of dedicated video memory (VRAM). This is all-important, so you can have a laptop that will be able to keep up with what you are doing.

Storage

The fourth thing that you should think of is storage since this can either speed you up or slow you down. A traditional hard drive has moving parts in it, making it very slow, so you want to get a laptop with an SSD or solid-state drive. SSD’s don’t have any moving parts in them and can be many, many times faster than a hard drive. Depending on what you will be working on your laptop, half of a terabyte or 500GB should be enough, but if you are doing any video work, 1-2 terabytes might be necessary to store large video files.

Memory/RAM

Number five is your system memory or RAM. RAM is the memory in your computer that allows everything to run. Most of the time, the more memory you have in your laptop, the faster it will be able to run. So when looking at laptops, you want to make sure you are getting at least 8-16GB of RAM to help everything run smoothly and have multiple windows open.

Features

Number six is the features. One of the many features that you will want in your laptop is the type of USB. In a modern laptop, the kind of USB you want to have is USB 3.0, and if you can, USB Type-C. The next feature is having a backlit keyboard. Having a backlit keyboard will make it easier to type when you are in the dark, or so you can see the keys in a low-light environment. The next and final feature is a good audio system. Having a good audio system on your laptop is good, so you can hear things more clearly, especially if you will be working on videos.

Style

The final thing that I think that you would consider is the style and feel of the laptop. Although they have very powerful components inside them, some laptops are huge and clunky, which makes them hard to use on the go. This, overall, defeats the purpose of a laptop.
